I just moved to Big Lake and purchased a home up in the developments NW of Mitchell. I have noticed quite a few entrances to random bike trails. I looked all over the net, but cannot find anything about where any of these trails go, how long they are, ect... I plan on exploring myself soon, but this weekend I have family in town with young ones who want to go on a bike ride. I would love to know a good place to start, and how far they go. If anyone has any info on these trails, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Just to add another note to my last thread. Has anyone out there been paying attention to NASCAR and the drop in sponsorship. Google it, the economy is in a position where major race car teams have lost their sponsorship. That is where the big money is and NASCAR sent a letter to the corporation letting them know they are not sponsoring the track proposed in Big Lake.

What would that do to the local track they are proposing??

To the Community of Big Lake and Big Lake Township.

We need to stand united on our objection to the recetrack. I agree with the last blog, long term this will not be good for our community.

I have been a resident of the Township for over 16 years. My husband and I moved here to avoid the hassle of urban living and now we have someone knocking on our door asking us to change our community, so he can make money, and don't kid yourselves into thinking he has our best interests at heart.

Another concern I have is that despite the months of community concerns over this isssue, one of our elected Township officials finally let it be publically known he has a vested interest. Is anyone else concerned about that?

Another question I have is what happens to this "proposed" facility if the developers financing falls through. Are you willing to let that even be a remote possibility? We are facing tough economic times as a nation and as a community, the tax base may look good now but it will effect many generations to come.

The risk of long term pollution is great . The risk to protected species in the area is great. One of the solutions the owner of the company has for traffic congestion is that we could close County Road 14 to two way traffic during peak times (I kid you not). I personally do not want to be prevented from going to and from my home because of racecar fans. This may have implications for folks living on Co Rd 43 as well.

Economic development is important. Lets make those decisions for the right reasons and building a facility twice as large as the City of Big Lake is not the development we need.

Thank You

I've only heard a few rumors about this, but don't know exact details. I think it would be great being a racer's wife that travels to Brainerd every year to drag race. It would bring tourism to Big Lake, especially once the rail is up and running and city racers wouldn't have to trek as far. I think the only concern would be noise polution, but if you have races stop at 9 pm, I don't think it would be that bad as a local.
