Abandoned Vehicles
| Q: | There is an abandoned a vehicle on my property, can I have it impounded? |
| A: | Generally, yes. Specific rules are set forth in Minnesota Statutes section 168B.04. Because abandoned vehicles tend to be in poor condition, many remain unclaimed. As such, you will be expected to provide payment at the time the vehicle is removed from your property. |

| Q: | Can I buy an impounded vehicle that no one has claimed? |
| A: | Minnesota law provides that impounded vehicles that remain unclaimed may be sold subsequent to owner/lienholder notification and the experiation of applicable waiting periods. In practical terms, unclaimed vehicles are generally prepared for sale in 60-120 days. Vehicles for sale will be advertised here, and may be sold directly, and/or auctioned on ebay. |
| Q: | How do I get a title for a vehicle purchased through an impound sale? |
| A: | Upon completion of sale the buyer will be issued a receipt in the specific form required by the registrar of motor vehicles. This receipt will entitle the buyer to register the motor vehicle and receive a Minnesota title, subsequent to sucessful completion of a state mandated safety check. |
| Q: | How is the required safety check obtained? |
| A: | The vehicle must be inspected by a certified mechanic, or a Minnesota police officer. The safety check form is printed on the reverse of the purchase receipt described above, and must be signed by the inspector. |
| Q: | Do you provide the required safety check as part of the sale? |
| A: | In the event that we have inspected the vehicle prior to sale, and performed any necessary repairs, we may provide the inspection. In the event that we have not inspected the vehicle or performed pre-sale repairs, we recommend that a neutral third party inspect the vehicle to preclude any conflict of interest. |
| Q: | Will states oustide of Minnesota honor this type of transfer? |
| A: | We make no representation that another state will grant you a title. Out-of-state buyers are encouraged to research this issue prior to contemplating purchase. |
| Q: | Do you guarantee that impounded vehicles offered for sale are clear of previous salvage titles, flood damage, etc.? |
| A: | No. As with any used car purchase, buyers are encouraged to avail themselves of vehcile history reports provided by Experian, and other providers. |
